Heyfield ends White domination

HEYFIELD, West Sale and Sale won the North Gippsland Bowls Division Saturday pennant grand finals on Saturday.

The matches were played in trying conditions at Heyfield. The greens were running fast and with the strong wind, the bowlers were put under a lot of pressure as where their bowls were to finish.

HEYFIELD showed true grit and determination in bringing to an end Sale White’s attempt to win three section one pennants in a row after beating that club for the third time this season.

After a good start, Heyfield led all day.

After 21 ends, Heyfield led by 17 before Sale White began to bridge the gap. At the 27th end, the Heyfield lead was reduced to six shots, by afternoon tea the deficit was two.

Heyfield kicked away again after the break, to a 10-shot lead at the 28th end and was looking good.

Sale White came again and with three ends to play, Heyfield had a slender lead of two. This was reduced to one at the finish as Heyfield won 70-69.

WEST Sale, in its inaugural season, won the section two grand final after a slow start against Sale Blue.

West Sale came from 15 shots down at the 21st end to go one shot up at the tea break.

The game was nip and tuck from the break with Sale Blue grabbing the lead back at the 60th end, West Sale, with a nine shots to one tally over the next six ends, saw them in front again.

Scores were level with one end to play. West Sale team won that end and its first NGBD pennant, 66-65.

SALE Blue led the section three grand final through, collecting its third pennant win in a row.

Sale Blue defeated clubmates Sale White 56-39.
