Swans stun champions

SALE United began its Latrobe Valley Soccer League in barnstorming fashion.

The Swans defeated reigning champion Moe United 4-0 at home on Sunday.

The home side weathered early attacks of the inexperienced Red Devils to lead 1-0 at half-time before finding the back of the net three times in the second half as the Swans made the most of their better fitness.

Ace Mitrevski scored a brace, while Tommy Nguyen and Josh Ryan also scored.

The result puts Sale United in second place, behind Falcons on goal difference.

LAST season’s runner-up Falcons blasted East Gippsland United 5-0 at home.

Jesse Kennedy scored a hat-trick for Falcons, which benefitted from solid hit-outs in the FFA Cup in recent weeks.

TRARALGON olympians drew at home with Newborough-Yallourn United 3-3.

Olympians broke through off a corner after 10 minutes and doubled their lead with a set play from a free kick shortly after.

The momentum swung the Combine’s way with Joel Pirotta scoring a double before Stuart Ashdown put the visitors in front.

Olympians ensured the points were shared with a goal from the penalty spot.

TYERS came from behind twice to draw with Churchill United 2-2.

Matt McGrath gave the Rams the lead after heading a Paul Reiss cross into the net after 20 minutes.

The visitors equalised after making the most of a mix-up in Churchill’s defence.

The Rams reclaimed the lead with another header, this time from Brad Sands, in the second half.

The Lightning levelled again with 20 minutes remaining.

IN other matches, Fortuna defeated Traralgon City 1-0, Monash scored a goal in each half to defeat Trafalgar Victory 2-0.

THiS Sunday, Sale United will host Olympians, NYU will welcome Traralgon City, Falcons will host local rival Fortuna, Churchill will travel to Trafalgar, Monash will host Moe, and East Gippsland will play Tyers in Bairnsdale.
