Junior semi-final weekend

SALE-Maffra junior cricket semi-finals will be played on Saturday and Sunday.

In good news for the association, the eight finalists across the two grades come from eight clubs.

In the under 16s, Collegians will host Sale, and Longford will head to Bundalaguah.

Stratford will meet Heyfield at home in the under 14s, while Boisdale-Briagolong will host Maffra Red.

COLLEGIANS will be looking to continue its undefeated season in the under 16s against Sale.

The Swans enter the finals on the back of two defeats, albeit to teams above them on the ladder.

Collegians has two of the two run-scorers this season, Tom Morrison (189 at 47.25) and Jed Malone (187 at 37.4). Noah Hurley has scored 143 runs and taken 11 wickets.

Sale’s better performers have been Darren Marks and Jarrod Ingles, who have taken 10 wickets each, and Thomas Wrigglesworth, who has scored 127 runs.

The other semi-final promises to be a close match.

While Bundalaguah has only lost one match this season, Longford went down to minor premier Collegians last weekend by just one run.

The Bulls have been led by captain Jake Wynd, who has scored 166 runs and taken nine wickets. Dean Devisser has scored 187 runs at an average of 46.75, while Kyle O’Reilly has scored 161 at 80.5.

For the Lizards, Thomas Mann has scored 121 runs and taken nine wickets, while Nathan Denney has claimed 13 wickets at 8.23.

UNDEFEATED in the under 14s, Stratford will meet Heyfield, which only booked its place in the finals last weekend.

The Kangaroos replaced Collegians Red in the top four by defeating the College team.

The Redbacks will be wary to underestimate Heyfield, which has solid performers such as Tyson Birss (142 runs and nine wickets), Curtis Berryman (10 wickets) and Tarant Rose (nine wickets).

Ethan Aurisch has been Stratford’s stand-out player, scoring 214 runs at 71.33 and 12 wickets, but teammates Kane Russell (160 runs and nine wickets), Seb Pendergast (160 runs) and Adam Russell (nine wickets) have also made good contributions this season.

Maffra Red will be looking to repeat its recent victory over Boisdale-Briagolong.

Since losing to Red in round nine, the Saints have won their past three matches.

Shaymus Wain (177 runs) and Mason Annear (14 wickets) have been among Boisdale-Briagolong’s best players this season, while Jake Pendrick (175 runs), Ryan Phelan (10 wickets) and Harry Gravener (eight wickets) have performed for Maffra Red.
