Demons conquer Cougars

A FIVE-goal third quarter fightback helped Yarram to its ninth straight win this year, defeating Churchill 9.20 (74) to 10.7 (67) on Sunday.

The Demons were floundering somewhat early, as Churchill leapt to a 15-point lead at quarter-time.

The Cougars extended that margin to 18 at half time, keeping Yarram to just one goal and four behinds.

Yarram are on top of the North Gippsland ladder for a reason, however, and the five goal to two blitz got the Demons in front by four at the final change.

From there, things could have gone much worse for Churchill — Yarram kicked just two goals from eight scoring shots, but the damage was done.

Yarram’s Jack Moore top-scored with three, with Dan Vardy named best.

Former AFL ruckman Ivan Maric was best for Churchill, and Chris Williams kicked four.
