YOUNG Sale long distance runner Cassie Farley recently returned home from Darwin after representing Victoria in the School Sports Australia track and field championships.
Competing in a range of distances, Cassie put in a commendable effort competing against some more seasoned opponents.
On day one Cassie had a solid run in the 1500 metres, finishing in the top 10 with a personal best time of 5:25.48 minutes.
The second day was even more successful, with Cassie coming third in her heat of the 800m. Her time of 2:33.31min shaved an incredible four seconds off her personal best.
Running in the 800m final on the third day, Cassie unfortunately never got going, and had to be content with a seventh place finish.
Despite the shortcoming, Cassie took a great deal of confidence away from the championships, knowing that she could match it with the best in Australia.
Cassie will now turn her attention to the School Sports Victoria state championships later this month.
As participation in the Australian championships was self-funded, Cassie sold raffle tickets and gathered sponsors to cover expenses.
