Early finish for Sharks

SALE-MAFFRA had an early day against Warragul in round four of the Gippsland Cricket League, wrapping things up with a comprehensive six-wicket victory.

The Wilddogs won the toss and elected to bat first, but quickly found themselves in the unbelievable position of being 4-3 in the fourth over.

Jonny Lash and Dylan Rowley each took two wickets in their opening two overs, and had dismissed both Warragul openers before a run had been registered.

Given their predicament, the Wilddogs were swimming against the current for the rest of the game and could only scratch out 67.

The Sharks bowlers enjoyed a day out, with Lash taking 3-6 from 10 including six maidens.

Rowley finished with 2-9, while spinners Coenie Nel and Dylan Bolton took five wickets between them.

Despite falling to 3-13 in the fourth over, Sale-Maffra was able to blast out the required runs in the 13th over. Nel top-scored with 31 from 32.

Lauchlan Gregson gave Warragul a glimmer of hope with his 3-28.

In other games, Latrobe Valley suffered a similarity one sided defeat against Leongatha, and Traralgon lost to Bairnsdale.
