One-day crown for College

COLLEGIANS was crowned Sale- Maffra cricket one day premier, following a 29-run victory over Sale in Sunday’s final.

After winning the toss and electing to bat at Sale Oval, Collegians got off to a good start, with Adrian Burgiel and Jack Tatterson putting on 40 runs for the opening wicket.

Runs continued to flow from the blades of Zac Hurley and Isaac Love, who made scores of 28 and 45 respectively.

Burgiel departed for a matchhigh 51, to help Collegians to 8-189 from its allotted 40 overs.

A flurry of wickets came late in the innings as College searched for quick runs. Sale bowlers Coenie Nel (3-24) and Tim Dessent (3-37) picked up multiple scalps.

In reply, Sale had an uphill battle after its top order fell to pieces. The Swans never really recovered from being 3-17, which became 6-56 not long after.

Ben Jones (40) Lucas Mowat (25) and Simon Jago (20) threatened with the bat, but it was a case of too little, too late, as the Swans were bowled out for 160 in the penultimate over.

The result could be a good omen for Collegians, who may play Sale in the coming two-day finals.
