MAFFRA Amateur Basketball Association president Yvonne Higgins died on Sunday, aged 62, following a battle with cancer.
Higgins had been president since 1987, as part of a five-decade involvement in basketball which included playing, refereeing and coaching.
The new main showcourt at the Cameron Sporting Complex was recently named in Higgins’ honour. It was on that court that Higgins saw the Maffra Eagles recently win the Country Basketball League men’s grand final.
Higgins, along with a small band of volunteers, had been instrumental in getting the upgrades, which expanded the number of courts at Maffra to three, underway.
Higgins’ funeral will be held on the Yvonne Higgins Showcourt on Tuesday from noon.
Members of the local basketball community have been invited to form a guard of honour following the service.
