MAFFRA’S Daniel Bedggood was last week named the Sale-Maffra cricketer of the year.

Bedggood claimed the Noel Freshwater Cricketer of the Year Award after receiving 17 votes, four more than Bundalaguah’s Steve Spoljaric, with Stratford’s Bohdi Walker a further vote behind in third place.

Bedggood also won the first grade batting aggregate award after scoring 520 runs during the home-and-away rounds (at an average of 37.14), including 107 against Collegians and 94 in the final round against Longford.

Scoring 502 runs for the season, Spoljaric’s average of 45.64 earned him the Don Mynard Award.

Spoljaric scored a century and three half-centuries during the season.

Bedggood led the vote count after five votes, two ahead of Eagles teammate Nathan Magnuson and Walker.

With four rounds to count, Bedggood was still in front, one ahead of Sale captain Rohan Blandford and Spoljaric. Two votes in the penultimate round sealed the award for Bedggood, who then got three in the final round.

With 28 wickets at 10.75, including two four-wicket hauls against Stratford, Magnuson was first grade’s best bowler, claiming the Allan Evans Medal and leading wicket-taker award.

With three teams winning minor premierships, Stratford was the best performing club, claiming the Jack Abel Trophy.
