JOCKEY Billy Egan left Greenwattle Racecourse with a winning treble on Tuesday.
Egan’s first win came in race two, the 1110 metre two-year-old maiden plate, on board Serious Sarah.
The filly, trained by Greg Eurell at Cranbourne, won on debut, finishing two lengths ahead of favourite Vinlago.
Egan was in the saddle when three-year-old gelding Mr Roger won race five, the 1423m class one handicap.
Trained by Richard Laming at Cranbourne, Mr Roger led the field before kicking away heading into the home straight to win by four lengths.
Egan brought up his treble in the final race of the day, the 1110m benchmark 64 handicap.
Egan kept Contalmaison, trained by Cheryl Weller at Balnarring, on the fence, with the win set-up entering the straight. The margin was closed to half a length by a fast-finishing Devil’s Rain.
Before a month’s freshening, four-year-old gelding Contalmaison won at Pakenham and place second at Mornington in March.
The Sale track, rated “good four” was in ideal conditions for the meeting, giving frontrunners and horses who prefer to come from behind a chance to win.
Only four runners contested the first race of the day, a 1110m maiden plate, with Montera, trained by Craig Blackshaw at Pakenham and ridden by Michael Poy, claiming victory.
Bunchan, trained by Mitchell Beer and Max Minton at Mornington and ridden by Celine Gaudray, won race three, the 1623m maiden plate. The three-year-old gelding made a move in the straight, and won from Arabian Affairs, who had his chances.
Flemington trainers Mathew Ellerton and Simon Zahra had a quinella in race four, the 1423m three-year-old maiden plate.
Favourite Reliable Dude, ridden by Daniel Moor, passed pace-setter Victoria Falls in the straight to win by a length and a quarter.
Race six, a benchmark 64 handicap over 2238m, was won by Plucky Pirouette, trained by Caroline Jennings at Pakenham and ridden by Patrick Moloney.
The three-year-old filly, coming off a third placing at Cranbourne last week, went to the lead out of the gate and set the pace to win by two lengths. Arctic Wolf followed Plucky Pirouette for much of the race, and held on to finish second.
Diamond, trained by Gemma Rielly at Caulfield and ridden by Joe Bowditch, won race seven, the 1210m fillies and mares benchmark 64 handicap.
The next meeting at Greenwattle will be on Wednesday, May 12.
