Sale Tennis Club seeks new coach

Outgoing Sale Tennis Club coach Anthony Zafiris.

SALE Tennis Club coach Anthony Zafiris is bound for Brisbane, where his wife Fiona is taking up a new senior medical consulting role.
During his two years at Sale Tennis Club, Zafiris has transformed the coaching program into an elite academy with the outcomes now showing in tournament results for his coaching students around the state.
Zafiris has been responsible for the significant expansion of the Hot Shots program, the introduction of cohesive junior squads with a focus on sound technique and elite skills,
has developed an adult coaching program, has helped with the revival of the bi-annual challenge with Bairnsdale Tennis Club in addition to his day-to-day coaching delivery to private students and schools.
In his two years at Sale, Zafiris won the men’s singles title at the club championships both years, bringing a standard of singles play never before seen at the championships.
Sale Tennis Club will now undertake a comprehensive coach recruitment process with a view to making an appointment for the beginning of the fourth school term.
Expressions of interest will be sought from Tennis Australia-accredited coaches from around the country.
Last time the club recruited it had more than 10 applicants, including applicants from France, Switzerland and the USA. The club is hoping for a similar field this time around.
Club president Robin Lowe said the club wished to build on the elite coaching platform Zafiris established.
“While we are very disappointed to see Anthony leave, family must always come first, and we wish him the very best with his move north,” he said.
“While there may be some short term disruption to coaching services, the appointment of a new coach also provides an opportunity to try new things and expand our coaching offer.
“We will work hard over the coming weeks to find the best available coach to offer the Sale tennis community a full range of coaching services.
“In the meantime we ask for people’s patience while we go through the recruitment process.”
Zafiris’ last day will be September 17.
