Cowwarr’s Ann Gibbs recently returned home with three gold and five silver medals from the 2022 Victoria Police and Emergency Services Games.

Representing Cowwarr CFA, Gibbs competed in eight swimming events over two days and won gold or silver in each one.

The annual 10-day competition attracted competitors representing organisations including the CFA, Victoria Police, Ambulance Victoria, State Emergency Service, Fire Rescue Victoria, Life Saving Victoria and Emergency Management Victoria.

Competition was held across a wide number of sports, including track and field, triathlon, equestrian, surfing and cycling at venues in Melbourne and regional Victoria.

The 10-day event finished on Sunday, March 27.

The swimming events were held at WaterMarc, an indoor swimming complex in Greensborough in Melbourne’s north-east.

Gibbs, who is also a patrolling member at Seaspray Surf Club, raced in the 50, 100, 200, 800 and 1500 metre freestyle events and in the 50 and 100 metre backstroke events. She won the 100 and 200 metre freestyle and the 50 metre backstroke.

“It was a busy program to complete, but I thoroughly enjoyed every moment,” Gibbs said.

“It was a great opportunity to meet first responders from across the state in a fun and relaxed atmosphere.”

Gibbs, who trains regularly with Sale Swimming Club, said she was looking forward to competing again next year.

“Swimming and lifesaving have been part of my life since I was a child. I’m proud to be able to help people at the beach as a surf lifesaver and be fit and strong for my role as a volunteer firefighter with the CFA,” she said.
