THE East Gippsland Hockey Association competition was back in action last weekend following a two-week break.

Maffra and Swan Reach battled it out in their Round 8 clash.

Maffra came out on top, winning four of the five games played.

In the women’s, the undefeated Maffra team was taken back by the strength of Swan Reach, sitting in fourth place on the ladder.

The match was tight, but an early goal from Nicole Wilkinson put Maffra in the lead.

Swan Reach’s defence held strong, denying the women from Maffra further goals.

Upon the whistles blow, the scoreboard read victory for Maffra in a gruelling 1-0 match.

Swan Reach has dominated the Open competition this season, and their most recent 5-1 victory over Maffra on Saturday maintained their undefeated title.

Swan Reach took an early lead, which Maffra’s Lachie White soon equalised just before half-time.

The Swans flew into the second half and were too strong for Maffra, stealing the remainder of the game.

Tyson Brindley, Josh Ward and Ryan Pruscino scored one goal each, and Riley Simpson scored two, taking Swan Reach to their 5-1 victory.

In a shock result for the Under 13’s, Maffra upset the ladder leaders, defeating Swan Reach 2-1.

Connor Johnston and Janah Thomas each scored a goal for Maffra.

Maisson Sheiffelbein was the sole scorer for Swan Reach.

In the Under 15s, Maffra preserved their undefeated status with a hard-fought, 2-0 win over Swan Reach.

Maffra scorers were Daniel Neaves and Kate Allen.

Maffra defeated Swan Reach in the Under 18s, the final score reading 2-1.

Hamish MacGregor scored both goals for Maffra, while Josh Ward scored for Swan Reach.
