Maffra Hockey Club played Nagle/Bairnsdale on Friday night, July 29 and Saturday, July 30.

The Women and Open matches took place at the GRSC hockey pitch on Friday night in icy cold conditions.

The Maffra women’s team took control of the match early with goals from Jess Cull and Kahlia Hillbrich.

Cull added two more goals in the second half, while Leah Grant scored a consolation goal for Nagle/Bairnsdale.

The final score was 4-1 to Maffra.

The Open match saw a depleted Maffra team come up against an in-form Nagle. Maffra could not challenge the second-placed team, and Nagle took the match 7-0.

Hugh Grant scored a hat-trick for Nagle, with Mikayla Blackshaw scoring twice. Stephanie Bracher and Jacob Freiberg added a goal each.

Ryan Crawford played his 100th game for the Maffra Open hockey team on Friday night.

Despite the loss, Maffra celebrated Ryan Crawford’s 100th game for the open team.

The junior matches took place on Saturday at Nagle College.

In a solid team performance on the grass, the Under 13 game finished 2-0 to Maffra. Tara Lambert and Janah Thomas scored for Maffra.

Maffra’s Under 15 team gave everything and spent most of the game in attack but could not score.

Nagle/Bairnsdale made the most of their opportunities, winning the match 2-0 with goals from Leah Grant and Alex Ottoson.

Maffra’s Under 18 team played a strong game to take the match 5-0.

Nikolas Valette scored four goals, and Nathan Williamson scored the fifth goal.
