After a leisurely week break, Rosedale Football-Netball Club’s A Grade netball team is back on the court this weekend, going head to head with Woodside FNC in the North Gippsland Football Netball League A Grade netball Grand Final.

Having won the last two NGFNL Grand Finals, defeating Woodside 46 to 44 in 2019 and Churchill 33 to 31 in 2018, Rosedale will be relentless in tomorrow’s battle of the blues fighting for their third consecutive premiership.

“We are really pumped, very excited that it is finally here and that we made it in,” said Rosedale coach Sarah Mayman.

“The atmosphere around the netball courts is amazing at the moment, especially given that we’ve got four teams in for the day and a football team in too.

“So yeah, we are all very pumped and ready to go,” she said.

With Rosedale’s A Grade, B Grade, D Grade and Under 15s netball teams and Under 18s football team all fighting for a NGFNL 2022 premiership title in Heyfield tomorrow, a bountiful cheer squad for the Blues is to be expected.

“We should have a good crowd; we are always very supportive of each other, so we should get a good group of people there,” said Mayman.

Despite having no game last weekend, having defeated Woodside in the Semi-Final, the girls in blue have continued to train, keeping their routine in preparation for tomorrow’s Grand Final.

“We’ve been making sure to stay in routine, training, moving around and getting the ball in our hands and just staying together as a group, being together,” said Mayman.

“We were pretty stoked to have the week off so that we could rest up, but the adrenaline is starting to kick in, and we are all just ready to get in and have a good game.”

Will Rosedale make it three for three, or will Woodside put an end to the Blues’ premiership streak?

The countdown is on, and by tomorrow afternoon, NGFNL’s 2022 A Grade netball Grand Final will be decided.

The Rosedale team is:

1Meg Gordyn – goal shooter

Tall and agile with amazing balance, Gordyn is the ultimate GS with strong hands pulling in rebounds as they come. Adapting to any type of defender, she can be a moving shooter or tall post; Gordyn will play the part needed on the day.

2Lorelle Lowe – goal attack

Lowe knows what it takes to be successful; she is a passionate and fearless player who always gives 100 per cent. Lowe combines well with Gordyn in the ring, and she loves pumping the crowd up with her fade-away shots.

3Demi Plunkett – wing attack

Plunkett is new to Rosedale FNC and the NGFNL, but has slotted in nicely to the Blues A grade side. She has fantastic vision and is always ready for the perfect feed into the ring. Plunkett is an excellent support to her fellow attackers.

4Carly Johnstone – centre

Speedy, agile and a hard worker, Johnstone is not afraid to get in there and contest the ball. She puts her body on the line every game and is great support to both attack and defence. It’s true what they say; age is just a number, because Johnstone can still run rings around the younger generation.

5Sarah Mayman – goal defence

Mayman attacks the ball hard, putting pressure on her attackers. She provides support around the ring to her defenders and loves being a bossy bee on the court.

6Bronwyn Tebb – goalkeeper

Tebb is the ultimate defender who combines well with most. Her ‘go-go gadget’ arms always provide plenty of opportunities for the attack end with intercepts and rebounds. Her defensive pressure is second to none.

7Emily McInnes – goal defender

McInnes is new to Rosedale FNC and to the NGFNL. She is a tall, strong defender whose hands are like a ball magnet pulling in all tips and rebounds. McInnes’ ability to read the play and perfect timing provide many intercepts and opportunities for our attacking end.

8Misché Richards – wing defence

Richards is a first-year senior player who is making the transition nicely. She aids our defence with long arms over the ball and puts plenty of pressure on her attacking player. Always an option while bringing the ball downcourt.

9Kirrily Bruce

Bruce is a speedy midcourter who can swing through any mid-court position. Kirrily is still a junior but slots in well with the seniors as her hunger for the ball makes her a formidable opponent.
