Sale United Football Club is preparing for one of the biggest weekends in the club’s history.

The Swans women are taking on Latrobe Valley rivals Fortuna 60 Soccer Club in Round 1 of the Nike F.C Cup, and Sale United men are taking on FC Clifton Hill in Round 3 of the Australia Cup.

The Women’s State Knockout Cup, Nike F.C Cup, is still in its infancy and was established and first contested in 2012 under the name Pelada Cup. Women’s Premier League side Box Hill United defeated Bundoora United 2-0, claiming the inaugural title.

Sale’s own women’s coach Madelaine Breakspear was among the line-up for the winning Women’s Premier League side in the 2012 Pelada Cup; Anouk Meereboer, Sale United’s men’s head coach, joined Breakspear in Box Hill’s line-up for the Nike F.C Cup Grand Final in 2018, coming runner-up to Women’s National Premier League side Calder United Soccer Club.

Sale United’s match against Fortuna, the competition’s only other Latrobe Valley Soccer League contender, kicks off at 1pm, Sunday, March 5, in Morwell.

After defeating Victorian Metro 4 side, Swinburne University in Round 2, Sale United men will take confidence into their match against FC Clifton Hill.

The match kicks off at 6pm at the Sale United Football Club Grounds.

Games are open to the public, with food and drinks available throughout the day.

Sale United invites the community to get behind the Swans this weekend as they make club history.
