The Swanettes are set on preserving their top ladder position and undefeated title this weekend when they take on Traralgon City in Traralgon.

Sale United Football Club remain ladder leaders ahead of Round 8 in the Latrobe Valley Soccer League.

Fortuna ’60 is hot behind Sale in second, Falcons 2000 in third, Tyers Lightning fourth, and East Gippsland United in fifth.

This weekend’s games will be fiercely contested as teams strive to climb the league ladder.

With Fortuna having the bye, on paper, Falcons could move back into second position at the end of Round 8 as they take on sixth-position side Morwell Pegasus at Ronald Reserve on Sunday.

In saying this, one should not underestimate the newly returned side as Pegasus have so far this season proven that when they’re on, they’re on.

Whatever the outcome, the Flacons Pegasus game is sure to be an entertaining match.

With Monash Soccer Club having found themselves at the bottom of the ladder, Newborough Yallourn United Soccer Club is expected to take the three points in Round 8 as they take on the Wolves at Monash Reserve.

Tyers Lightning host Moe United Soccer Club on Sunday.

Moe’s young side could upset the hosts, with the Red Devils boasting talented sisters Tylah and Jade Armistead, but having lost their previous three matches to top sides Sale United, Falcons 2000, and Fortuna ’60, Moe will have to bring their A-game if they want to take the three points this weekend.

Churchill United Soccer Club hit the road on Sunday, facing East Gippsland United Football Club at West Bairnsdale Oval.

All eyes will be on East Gippy’s leading goal scorer, young gun Sally Hoffman.

East Gippsland United, who are fifth on the ladder with three wins, one draw, and two losses, are expected to beat Churchill, who did not lose in Round 7 for the first time this season.

As for the ladder leaders, Sale United Football Club, they should take the three points at the weekend as they face ninth-position side Traralgon United.

From Sale’s vantage point, they’d want to make darn sure their standards don’t slide in the following weeks as the Swanettes prepare to face Falcons 2000 at the end of the month and Fortuna ’60 in June.

Keep playing your football Swanettes; there’d be nothing worse than bottling Sale’s first-ever league title.

Sale United senior men and reserve squads enjoy a break this weekend as both teams have a bye.
