Warragul, Latrobe Valley to fight for GCL final spot

GIPPSLAND Cricket League action is scheduled this Sunday.

Sale-Maffra has the bye for the last round of the regular season in Premier Men’s, which sees Warragul District take on Latrobe Valley at Western Park, and Leongatha travel to Bairnsdale City Oval.

The Sharks have already qualified for the final, and will play the winner of the match between Warragul and Latrobe Valley.

Latrobe Valley is three points clear of Warragul heading into Round 5, but the Wild Dogs can leapfrog their opponents into second on the ladder with victory.

Latrobe Valley should be at some advantage given they draw from a huge pool of nearly 20 clubs, which came about when the former Traralgon District Cricket Association and Latrobe Valley District Cricket Leagues merged at the start of this season.

The GCL final has been set down for Sunday, February 4 at a venue to be decided.

Sale-Maffra also has the bye in the Under 18s, who are playing a series of twenty20 matches.

The Sharks do however have a game scheduled in Senior Women’s – although even this remains a possibility.

Sale-Maffra is slated to play Leongatha, who unfortunately forfeited every game before Christmas.

The Sharks will be hoping their opponents can cobble a team together before making the trip to Leongatha Secondary College.

The GCL women’s competition has been heavily compromised this season, with Sale-Maffra and Latrobe Valley the only associations able to field a team.

Sale-Maffra has the bye in Under 13 Development League.
