ROUND 8 of the AFL season saw a rivalry round of sorts, with a number of old enemies going toe-to-toe.
SALE’S Scott Pendlebury faced Carlton for the 30th time in his 391-game career, in another tense battle against the old enemy last Friday.
For the 22nd time in his career, Pendlebury got the better of the Blues, following a last gasp winning goal from Nick Daicos to seal the win 12.13 (85) to 12.7 (79) in front of over 88,000 at the MCG on Friday night.
Pendlebury was Collingwood’s second-highest ranked player on the field, collecting 22 disposals and kicking a goal, along with eight tackles, five clearance and six score involvements.
As a result, Collingwood moved into the top eight for the first time since Opening Round.
FELLOW Sale local, Charlie Comben was in action for North Melbourne against St Kilda at Marvel Stadium.
North Melbourne was unable to find their first win of the season, falling to the Saints by 38 points, 15.13 (103) to 10.5 (65) on Saturday.
Comben struggled as North Melbourne’s main pillar in defence. He managed 11 disposals, five marks and two tackles.
As the Kangaroos move to a win-loss record of 0-8, the question can begin to loom – could they go a whole season without a win?
YARRAM’S Josh Dunkley rounded out the weekend with a win for Brisbane over Gold Coast in the Q-Clash on Sunday.
Brisbane finally had their first win at the Gabba in 2024, after three losses on the bounce at home to start the season, wining by 34 points, 10.19 (79) to 6.9 (45).
Dunkley was exceptional for the Lions, finishing with 27 disposals, one goal, 11 marks, eight tackles and six clearances, with over 500 metres gained.
MAFFRA’S Sam Berry was in line to return for the Crows in the Showdown against Port Adelaide, but missed selection still due to his foot injury.
He may well be in contention to return this weekend when Adelaide host Brisbane.
