The Swanettes are champions again

SALE United Soccer Club completed another dominant senior women’s season, culminating in the Latrobe Valley Soccer League championship.

The Swanettes finished two games clear on top of the ladder, dropping just one game from 18 starts.

The achievement made it back-to-back championships for the women’s side, following their historic maiden title last season.

A 3-nil romp over Churchill last Sunday was followed by a presentation to the league winners.

The victory made it an even better drive home from Hazelwood South Reserve, as Sale had the championship trophy for company.

Sally Hoffman had a prolific season in front of goal, kicking 27 majors to win the league’s golden boot.

The Swanettes’ command over the competition was shown in their two games against second-best team, Falcons, beating them twice, 4-1 and 5-nil.

The championship was perhaps even more noteworthy than last season given Sale was without captain Zoe Askew.

Askew, who played 12 games, missed the last month of the season due to injury.

That the Swanettes still managed to finish two games clear on top speaks volumes of the quality within the squad.
