OPERATION Roadwise has drawn to a close, with local police slamming phone users and the small portion of drivers risking their own and others’ lives.
Wellington Highway Patrol, with the Sheriff’s Department and VicRoads enforcement, during an operation on the Princes Highway near Stratford, conducting 608 preliminary breath tests and checking vehicles.
Running from December 16 to January 8, the operation cracked down on drink and drugged driving.
Wellington Highway Patrol Sergeant Luke Banwell said the majority of motorists who travelled through the Wellington area did so in a courteous and safe manner and were to be congratulated.
“The greater portion of drivers are complying with our road rules and trying to establish a safe driving environment,” Sgt Banwell said.
“A small portion of drivers are countering this effort and creating nothing but danger to themselves and other road users.”
