Bulldogs are best

SALE City capped off its first season fielding a girls’ footy team by winning the Gippsland Youth Girls League premiership.

The Bulldogs defeated Bairnsdale 2.4 (16) to 1.5 (11) in a thrilling grand final at Sale Oval on Sunday, handing the Redlegs their first loss for the season.

Cleo Fox kicked both of City’s goals, and was named best-on-ground.

The Sale and District Junior Football Association division A grand finals were also played at Sale Oval on Sunday.

Heyfield took out the under 12 premiership after defeating Maffra Red 6.10 (46) to 2.4 (16).

Asher Eastham kicked four goals for the Kangaroos in a best-on-ground performance.

Coby Burgiel kicked eight goals to help Maffra Black defeat Maffra Red in the under 14s grand final, 13.8 (86) to 4.7 (31).

Down the road at Stephenson Park, Heyfield defeated College in the under 14 division B grand final.

College was too strong for Sale City in the under 12 division B grand final, while Woodside defeated Stratford in division C.

At Traralgon, Sale City lost the Traralgon and District Junior Football League under 16s grand final to Pax Hill, 6.8 (44) to 6.6 (42). Pax Hill’s Cody MacDonald won the medal for best-on-ground.
