A LATE surge gave Pine Gem victory for Sale greyhound trainer Lesley Russell at Warragul on Tuesday night.
In the 400 metre mixed grade six and seven, Dashing Dante shot out of the boxes to lead by five lengths, but Pine Gem made up ground, and with a late surge in the home straight, won by a nose. It was the dog’s third win from 15 starts.
Purify Virtuoso, trained by John Boreland at Seaspray, finished third.
William Rose, trained by Sharon-Lee Chignell at Rosedale, finished second in the final of the 400m series for dogs with three to six wins.
