WELLINGTON Shire Council is inviting residents and visitors to step outside and reconnect with nature during Parks Week 2026, with a broad range of free and low-cost events running throughout March across the shire’s parks and open spaces.
This year’s program, includes family fun days, fitness sessions, markets, guided walks and community events, which council says is designed to showcase the diversity and value of local parks.

The highlight of the week is Baby’s Day Out, a popular event designed especially for young families. Taking place this Monday, March 2, from 10am to 1pm at Brennan Park, Sale, Baby’s Day Out is a free event for children aged up to four years and their parents and carers.
Families attending Baby’s Day Out can enjoy a morning with a jumping castle, face painting, petting zoo, trackless train rides and a bubble-blowing display, along with activities delivered by council staff. A range of local community services will also be onsite, including maternal health care services, Uniting, Sale Toy Library, NDIS and Victoria Police, providing young families with an opportunity to connect in a relaxed outdoor setting.
This Parks Week will also include events such as Kids’ Day Out, Parkruns, movie nights, forest therapy walks, colour runs, fitness sessions and community markets across several towns and communities – ensuring there is something for everyone to enjoy.

Wellington Shire mayor Cindy Madeley described Parks Week as an opportunity for the community to come together and enjoy the region’s green spaces.
“Parks Week is a great excuse for everyone to get outside, enjoy our beautiful local parks and try something new,” Cr Madeley said.
“Whether it’s bringing the kids along to Baby’s Day Out, joining a community walk or simply spending time outdoors, I encourage people of all ages to come along and enjoy our community’s open spaces together.”
Celebrated annually across Australia and New Zealand, Parks Week recognises the role open spaces play in creating liveable towns, supporting physical and mental wellbeing and strengthening community connection.
