Excitement over new school announcement

LETTER TO THE EDITOR:

THE Sale Specialist School New School Parent Action Group thanks Education Minister James Merlino for visiting the school and for making such a wonderful announcement of $7.6 million to be allocated in this May’s budget, towards the building of our new school.

Along with the $4 million the Coalition government committed, $11.6 million is the total proposed cost for completing the building and landscaping.

The new school will accommodate 144 students, with plans in place for expansion for a future projected enrolment of 180 students.

The school should be completed for the start of the 2017 school year.

We would like to sincerely thank Labor member for Eastern Victoria Harriet Shing for being a fierce advocate for us in working towards gaining the remaining funding to build our new school.

To Peter Ryan, Danny O’Brien, Tim Bull and Darren Chester, National members for our area, for being a voice for us in parliament and getting the ball rolling with $4 million.

To the media, the Gippsland Times, Win Television, ABC radio, , Yarram Standard, TRFM, The Weekly Times and Prime TV and any outlets we may have missed, for covering our story over these long years.

We look forward in anticipation of Wellington Shire Council’s involvement in expediting the process of bringing to fruition the space and high quality, built-for-purpose facilities, to help our students and staff to continue to learn and grow.

To all who worked behind the scenes, to local businesses who supported us in our campaign by hosting petition boards, to those who signed our petitions, wrote letters and attended meetings, we thank you all for your support, because in the end the specialist students, their families and staff of the Wellington Shire need and deserve this new school.

You have all contributed to making it happen.

New Sale Specialist School, here we come!
