LETTER TO THE EDITOR:
WHERE is the harm to our country to support same sex marriage?
In the all the articles and letters that have been published, there is no valid reason to not give the basic freedom of voluntary marriage to all members of our community.
Many families have people of diverse backgrounds and beliefs.
They include spiritual beliefs (or not), political affiliations, sexuality and even what footy team you support.
Let’s embrace and understand what people in our community believe, rather than neglect it because it doesn’t align with your own personal beliefs.
The worst argument I have heard to date is that same sex marriage will compromise the family unit.
I put to people who use this line, how many families that are man and woman have problems with domestic violence, child abuse and divorce?
All these issues were in our society long before same sex marriage was being advocated for.
As a member of our community, I am proud to see that two of our federal politicians have declared their views on this important social issue.
Kudos to them.
This is a genuine social issue that needs attention and should be debated on merit and ethical obligation to all members of our community; not our own personal agenda.
I imagine people who are in a same sex relationship just want to be treated with the same respect and value that the rest of us enjoy.
