LETTER TO THE EDITOR:
GIPPSLANDERS, where is the fury and the passion?
Are we going to allow the Labor government to destroy our forest industry, a renewable resource?
A radical Green victory to lock up the bush some years ago saw the Heyfield community down on its knees, but with courage and tenacity it got back up, and with the help of the Australian Sustainable Hardwoods Mill, is presently a thriving town.
This company has been successful because of its innovation and value-adding initiatives to sell those many products here and overseas.
It had future agreements with VicForests in place.
The desired timber is still in the bush, and plans to harvest it, to preserve the Leadbeater’s possum, are still in place.
Radical Greens again would sacrifice thousands of jobs, and a thriving Gippsland business, to close the bush, but this is our Labor Government, elected, promising to sustain jobs and industry in regional areas.
Instead, the jobs of power workers have been destroyed.
We must prevent the same happening to timber workers.
So much for the slogan jobs, jobs, jobs.
Where are all the other Gippsland shires?
Team up with Wellington Shire and add your weight to their submissions to the government.
Residents, phone and write to local members.
Get on Facebook and tell the true story.
We need thousands to take this up, not hundreds, to beat this destructive decision which will have statewide ramifications for other Victorian industries.
