Fences needed to stop roos moving onto road

LETTER TO THE EDITOR

After reading the article headlined ‘Kangaroos corralled’, I was surprised that there was no mention of the RAAF bombing range at Dutson, where most – if not all – the kangaroos come out from, and make their way to the Dutson Downs Soil and Organic Recycling Facility.

You mentioned in the article that Gippsland Water had erected the fence.

Why hasn’t anyone contacted the RAAF to enquire as to if they could erect a fence as well, to keep them in the range and off the road?

The base goes all the way back to the lake, so there is plenty of room for the kangaroos to live, and it will stop all the carnage and damage to people’s vehicles.

Lowering the speed limit to 80kmh will not stop it, as I hit and killed one there and I was only doing 70kmh.

Fencing in the area is the solution, I believe.
