Planting day at botanic gardens

FRIENDS of Sale Botanic Gardens held a Grow the Garden event on Thursday complete with pansy potting, treasure hunts, face painting and a free sausage sizzle.

Blessed with brilliant sunshine, organisers said the day was a great success with many families attending.

Children were invited to plant poa grass and brachyscome, a flowering plant, in a section of garden bed near the Kurrajong Pod, alongside volunteers from FOSBG and Wellington Shire.

Sale Botanic Gardens are the only example of a Botanic Gardens of colonial times remaining in Gippsland.

For the past 15 years the Friends of Sale Botanic Gardens has been integral in the ongoing development of the highly valued gardens.

Every second Thursday of the month, volunteers can be seen working throughout the gardens tending to garden beds, raking paths, pruning, or even running free community events.
