MUCH-loved community meeting spaces in Glenmaggie and Stratford will be upgraded.
Eastern Victoria MLC Jane Garrett announced more than $100,000 in funding for Glenmaggie Mechanics Institute and the Stratford RSL from the Latrobe Valley Authority’s Community and Facility Fund.
Glenmaggie Mechanics Institute will be transformed thanks to a $71,639 grant to upgrade the sitting room and library space, lay new flooring, repaint and build new accessible toilets.
It will enhance community access and allow the hall to attract larger events to the local area.
Accessibility and safety will be improved at the Stratford RSL, with the sub-branch receiving $62,251 to enhance their facilities.
The upgrades will include installing accessible toilets, widening internal doorways, and improving access to the building’s main entrances.
It will mean users of the facility no longer have to cross the road to use public toilets, enabling increased participation and comfort.
“These projects will improve much-loved community facilities, allowing the community groups to grow and expand, but also provide a boost to local businesses involved in the work,” Ms Garrett said.
“It’s great to see a further two projects share in over $100,000 under the highly successful fund.”
LV A chief executive Karen Cain said the fund had supported 232 community-led projects which encouraged participation and inclusion, and also provided a boost to local businesses involved in bringing the projects to life.
