A GIPPSLAND Grammar Old Scholar, Fergus Grubb, is one of six young recipients from across Australia who have won scholarships to further their engineering study.

The Australian Helicopter Industry Future Foundation presented the six awards to leading helicopter engineering apprentices at the RotorTech 2024 Industry Dinner.

Fergus, who is the son of Tracey and Marcus Grubb, of Longford, graduated from Gippsland Grammar in 2021 and has been working with Yungur Aviation Services, based at Moorabbin Airport, Melbourne, since leaving school.

He was the only Victorian awarded the $3000 scholarship, which he says will be utilised to upgrade tools.

“I am super grateful to be awarded like this but equally I am appreciative for the opportunity to be part of a great industry especially at Yungur Aviation. Yungur is the only Moorabbin-based business servicing privately-owned helicopters and is renowned for supporting apprentices and enabling them to reach their full potential,” Fergus said.

Gippsland Grammar’s careers adviser, Justin Henderson, praised the former student for his dedication and willingness to work hard at school and beyond.

“During Ferg’s time at school, he focused his work experience within the aviation industry, attending multiple experiences building connections and ensuring he knew as much about the industry he could before launching into the work force,” Mr Henderson said.

“It’s through his conscientious work habits and willingness to go above and beyond in his work effort, that he is achieving great things in his chosen field.”

The Australian Helicopter Industry Association said the purpose of the Future Foundation was to encourage more people to enter the industry including engineers, pilots, safety officers, whatever the industry demanded especially in regional areas.

“These scholarships will tackle sustainability in the industry and ensure trainees complete apprenticeships,” AHIA President, Ray Cronin, said during the award ceremony
