LOCAL artists and people with creative flair have been encouraged to take part in Sculpture in the Vines to be held at Blue Gables Vineyard on Saturday and Sunday, August 30 and 31.
Creating time will take place between 9am and 4pm on Saturday, August 30 with a public viewing and judging day on Sunday, August 31.
Entry cost $30, with entrants able to take home their sculpture. Entrants can pre-prepare bases, embellishments and stands for their design.
Wood fired pizzas and refreshments will be available both days at the cellar door between noon and 5pm.
Blue Gables Vineyard co-owner Catherine Hicks and local artist Kathy Luxford-Carr will judge, looking for creativity and imagination in the designs, which will be formed using vine canes from the vineyard’s Sparkling Shiraz crop.
Mrs Luxford-Carr said the event had already attracted significant interest, including an art teacher from Bairnsdale.
“A jeweller from Loch Sport will be making something,” she said. “It’s about recycling as well as artists exhibiting their work and promoting local art.
“It’s helping the environment and the backdrop for the artists work is good. We’re hoping for innovation, big or small, it could be something for the home from a small decoration for the table to a big thing for the garden.”
Entrants are encouraged to take their own tools, wire, gloves and safety glasses.
Mrs Hicks said she was excited to host the event.
“We think it’s a first for the area and we want to make it an annual event,” she said. “I’m amazed with the public interest already.
“Kathy will be assisting with support on the day. It’s open to local artists, families, anyone with creative flair. If you’re not participating, we encourage you to at least come to the viewing.”
