National finalists

THE managers of the Star Hotel, Sale are packed and ready to fly off to the Gold Coast to attend the Australian Hotels Association national awards at Jupiter’s Casino.

After winning “Best Bistro – Regional” in 2013 at the AHA state awards, the Star has been selected as a national finalist for the awards.

The Star Hotel employs more than 50 local people and having undergone massive changes over the past 12 months, hotel managing director Trent Fairweather thinks they are in with a fair chance of winning the national award.

“Since we purchased the hotel the timing is now right to see if we can win the ‘Gold Logie’ of the hotel industry,” he said.

The judges have been in on two occasions to assess the venue.

“Winning this would mean that we are the best in the country at what we do. However we are excited to even be selected as a finalist for the national awards,” Mr Fairweather said.

The Star Hotel has a long history of success with the AHA awards and other awards, but is yet to win a national award.

“If we can bring to Gippsland this national recognition I will be excited, however we are realistic that all the finalists are leaders in hospitality standards and we may just be back to try again,” Mr Fairweather said.
