Lawn and order in Bairnsdale

RESIDENTS in the Bairnsdale area have been left bewildered after thieves stole several much loved garden ornaments.

East Gippsland Crime Investigation Unit detectives are investigating after the ornaments were reported stolen from front yards in the Eastwood estate.

A white angel, about 50 centimetres tall was stolen from the front yard of a Balmoral Crescent address, sometime between 8am and 10am on October 7.

A sandstone Chinese lantern, about 34cm tall was stolen from the front of a Windsor Court property sometime between October 3 and 6.

A statue of two abstract figures joined at the abdominal area, about 60cm tall was stolen from a Charlton St address sometime between October 2 and 6.

A concrete Buddha was also stolen from an address in the Eastwood estate on October 2.

Eastern Region Crime Advisor Senior Sergeant Chris Pegg said they were following up several lines of inquiry but were hoping that some eagle-eyed gardeners may be able to assist them.

“People want their statues returned and we are also asking local residents to keep their garden items secured.” he said

Investigators believed they may have been taken by at least two offenders using a vehicle in the estate and are keen to speak to anyone who may have seen suspicious activity in the area.
