AUSTRALIAN Sustainable Hardwoods in Heyfield is the Victorian Association of Forest Industries 2014 Sustainability Award winner.
Each year, VAFI recognises members who have gone beyond compliance and made strategic improvements in their business, helping to build and secure the future of the Victorian forest and wood products industry.
ASH has undertaken significant sustainability improvements during the past two years.
Traffic management works across both ASH sites have been implemented to provide greater health and safety for all employees, visitors and contractors.
These improvements have contributed to the health and safety of ASH employees, as well as the ongoing efficiency and sustainability of the business through improved practices.
As well the firm has introduced new machinery to increase reliability and reduce emissions, downtime and waste.
The VAFI awards were presented during a ceremony held at the annual dinner in Melbourne on October 17.
The award winners were presented with a commemorative award plaque by Agriculture and Food Security Minister Peter Walsh.
This year, the three award categories of economy, community and sustainability reflected the importance of VAFI members to its industry, and the association’s focus ahead of the state election.
