Firearms offences

A 51-YEAR-old man was interviewed in relation to unsecured ammunition and unsecured firearms offences and a 54-year-old man was interviewed in relation to unsecured ammunition following a High Country operation at the weekend.

Operation Mudcap Two was executed in Wonnangatta as a joint operation conducted by Heyfield police, Parks Victoria and Game Management Authority Victoria.

Police also issued nine penalty notices for traffic offences in relation to seatbelt and license offences and nine penalty notices for vehicles located off-road, allowing dogs in National Parks, and leaving campfires unattended.

Heyfield police sergeant Glenn Thomson said Wonnangatta was targeted based on its popularity in recent years in the lead up to Melbourne Cup.

He said most campers appreciated the police presence.

HEYFIELD police conducted more than 300 preliminary breath tests in the Heyfield district from last Friday to Tuesday, as part of Operation Furlong.

A 52-year-old man recorded a blood alcohol concentration of 0.08, which police said was the only positive reading.
