THE Maffra Eagles remain in fifth place on the Country Basketball League Gippsland women’s table after winning one of their two home games last weekend.
The Eagles defeated fourth-placed Western Port 92-60 on Saturday night before going down to Korumburra 57-44 on Sunday afternoon.
A 28-17 first quarter set-up Maffra’s win over Western Port. The next two quarters were fairly even before the Eagles kicked away with a 30-10 final term to win by 32 points.
Maddi Bates scored 19 points for the Eagles, Jaz Allman 18 and Jessica Adams 17. Rachael Wansborough posted 22 for the Lady Steelers.
On Sunday, the Eagles led Korumburra by one point at quarter-time but were outscored from then on in a tight contest. The Eagles were unable to overcome four-point three-quarter-time deficit, going down by 13.
With 12, Bates was the only Maffra player to score in double figures. Jamie Lee Jeffs top-scored for the Wildcats with 16.
The Eagles will have the next two weekends off before returning to action at home against Moe on Saturday, December 13, then heading to Korumburra the next day.
STILL in fourth place on the men’s ladder after a week’s break, the Sale Sonics will host bottom side Traralgon on Sunday from 1pm at the Gippsland Regional Sports Complex.
