Train collides with car at Stratford

THE driver of a car was fortunate to have sustained only minor injuries following a collision with a train at Stratford on Friday morning.

The car collided with the Melbourne-bound train, with 77 passengers on board, at 6.50am at the Sandhill Rd level crossing.

A 23-year-old male drove the car in front of the train at the level crossing, which doesn’t have a boom gate. The driver was taken to Central Gippsland Health Service with minor injuries.

None of the passengers were injured, but there was minor damage to the locomotive.

Passengers were taken to the Stratford station, from where they travelled to Melbourne on coaches. No other V/Line services were affected.

Police are investigating the incident.
