LOCH Sport residents and boaters alike will set sail with greater ease after a major project to upgrade the Charlie’s St boat ramp is undertaken.
Wellington Shire Council has secured state government funding to improve the boat launching facility.
The project was identified as a priority in the Wellington Boating Facilities Strategic Plan for 2016 and will include an additional boat ramp, pontoons and works to address sand build up.
Charlie’s St boat ramp is prone to siltation through environmental factors including wind, waves and tide, which prevents access for recreational boaters to launch or retrieve their boats.
Wellington Shire mayor Darren McCubbin said with decreased lines and launching times, when completed, the project should result in a less congested car park.
“We are very pleased to have been awarded the funding as this is something both Loch Sport residents and holiday makers have been campaigning for,” Cr McCubbin said.
“New pontoons will make it much easier for the elderly, young children and those with limited physical abilities to access watercraft from the shore.
“Loch Sport is a hive of activity in the warmer months for boaters and this will go a long way to making this area easier to use.”
“Partly funded by Wellington Shire Council and the state government, the $586,684 project will improve what is already a great asset to Wellington Shire.”
