Nod for Stevens St development

AMENDMENTS for rezoning and subdividing Stevens St in Sale have been approved by Planning Minister Richard Wynne.

Amendments C85 and C88 introduce new planning provisions into the Wellington Planning Scheme, which will allow residential development of the land and the creation of 11 new lots in a popular residential area of the town, which is also near Sale wetlands. 

Having considered a broad range of planning issues at a two day public hearing in April last year, the independent Planning Panel appointed by the Planning Minister recommended that Amendments C85 and C88 be adopted by council. 

Council formally adopted Amendments C85 and C88 at its ordinary meeting on July 21 last year.

Council maintains rigorous planning controls will secure high quality development, which takes account of the existing character of Stevens St and has regard to the unique location of the land on the edge of Sale. 

It also says the controls, which were prepared in consultation with a range of key statutory agencies including the Department of Land, Water, Environment and Planning, will also ensure that the fullest possible protection is afforded to the nearby environmentally sensitive wetlands.
