THE equestrian community is mourning the death of a former Gippsland Grammar student who was killed while competing at a major equestrian event at the weekend.
Caitlyn Fischer, 19, was killed when her horse tripped and fell on her at 10.40am on Saturday during the cross-country competition of the Sydney International Horse Trials. The talented and passionate horse rider was riding the horse Ralphie in the one star competition when the accident happened at fence two.
She received urgent medical attention by an on-course paramedic and doctor, but was unable to be revived. Horse trials organisers immediately cancelled all competitions.
