SALE business owners are proposing naming a laneway in Sale.
The lane to the IGA car park off York St, where the businesses are located, currently has no name, which they said had led to problems directing customers.
Mortgage Choice Sale’s Dane Heinrich said some customers had called him from the car park, asking where his business was.
“Being a relatively new business to the area, the majority of clients coming to me for the first time need directions, and not having a street name makes it quite difficult,” he said.
“I realised early on that it would be an issue, so I’ve set about finding a solution that will not only benefit myself, but all of my neighbouring businesses.”
The group of businesses has approached Wellington Shire council, which has advised the issue will be put to a vote by council.
Mr Heinrich expects that if there are no objections, the lane will eventually be named.
The name ‘Sillett Lane’ has been put forward by council as per its Approved Road Names Register, after Melbourne Football Club 1878 and ‘79 captain Robert Sillett who set up Sillett’s Gippsland College in 1884.
