Driver charged after police avoid being hit

A MAN has been charged following an incident in Moe on Tuesday afternoon.

Police received a number of reports that a white Holden Rodeo utility had been allegedly driving erratically on Alexander Avenue and Service Rd about noon.

Members observed the car on Wirraway St and attempted an intercept.

The driver failed to pull over and allegedly drove away from police. He then performed a u-turn and allegedly drove towards police members who had to take action to avoid being hit.

The Holden Rodeo utility was later located abandoned on Staff St, where the driver had allegedly fled from the scene.

Police ran after the man and arrested him a short time later.

The 29-year-old Churchill man has been charged with theft of motor vehicle, theft of trailer, theft, evade police, reckless conduct endangering serious injury, drive in a manner dangerous, deal proceeds of crime, resist police, breach bail conditions, commit an indictable offence whilst on bail, careless driving and other traffic-related offences.

He has been remanded in custody to appear at the Latrobe Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday.
