Penalty notice after driver hits barriers

A DRIVER heading through Sale on the South Gippsland Highway on Sunday narrowly missed oncoming traffic when she lost control of the car and veered into road barriers at Grainger’s Bridge, near the Swing Bridge.

Police have called the incident a “stark reminder” of the dangers of driver inattention.

The woman, who was travelling with a two-year-old child, veered into the left side road barrier before swerving across the road into the right side barrier.

No one was injured in the accident, which happened about 12.40pm, and the woman was given a penalty notice for careless driving.

Acting Sergeant David Allen at Sale Police Station said drivers must be alert and careful “at all times” on the road.

“These sorts of accidents can happen due to inattention, and it’s a stark reminder of the need to be attentive,” he said.
