Maffra police busy

MAFFRA police were kept busy on Saturday night, with two separate incidents involving alcohol and aggression.

Police attended following the alleged assault of a man in Johnson St about 11.30pm.

A fight between a small group of men, near the rotunda, resulted in one man being hit in the back of a head with a bottle.

However, the man refused to cooperate with police and would not accept medical treatment. Shortly after, another man was arrested nearby for drunken behaviour at the Maffra Sports and Community Club. His behaviour earned him four hours in the police cells.

Sergeant Anthony Dessent said police were still investigating the alleged assault and are viewing CCTV and speaking to witnesses.

People with information should phone Maffra police on 5147 1026.

A YARRAM man was airlifted to Melbourne’s Alfred Hospital late Saturday night after suffering serious burns to his upper body.

It is believed the man, who is in his 30s, tripped and fell onto a combustible heater.

He was treated at the scene by paramedics, before being flown to the Alfred where he is undergoing treatment for severe scalding.
