AN arrangement to fund the running of the Stratford Courthouse Theatre has been agreed upon.
The agreement outlines Wellington Shire Council’s support for a community-based committee, subject to council’s acceptance of a proposed business operating model.
Council will initially provide $15,000 to support a number of community arts and theatre groups to form a committee to manage the theatre.
Subject to funding milestones requirements being met, council will provide an additional $60,000 over three years to enable the new committee to continue the lease of the theatre while it develops a program of shows and activities which becomes self-sustaining.
Required milestone include a strong financial model, including budget showing ongoing financial sustainability beyond council establishment funding.
A strong governance model, including lease agreement, agreements between user groups and securing incorporation status, and operational model, including compliance, maintenance and operational processes, will need to be established.
The committee will need to put together at least six months of programming for next year.
It will also need to hold an annual meeting, with operational and financial reporting to be provided annually to council.
Regional Arts Victoria has committed part-time staffing support for 12 months to support the new committee to develop the operating model and program.
Council staff are also assisting.
