LOCAL police are calling or witnesses to an assault in Sale last Tuesday, May 19.

Police allege five males forced entry to a premises in Hoddle St, Sale, about 7pm, and assaulted the occupant.

MAJOR Collision Investigation Unit detectives are appealing for witnesses following a serious crash in Tambo Upper on Saturday.

Police believe a Mazda station wagon was travelling north along Tambo Upper Rd towards Bruthen when the driver lost control, the vehicle flipping onto its roof and crashing into a tree about 3.10pm.

The front passenger, a 47-year-old Bruthen woman, suffered critical injuries and was airlifted to a hospital in Melbourne.

The rear passenger, a 20-year-old Lakes Entrance woman, also suffered critical injuries and was airlifted to a Melbourne hospital.

The driver of the car, a 20-year-old Bruthen woman, suffered minor injuries and was taken to a local hospital.

Police are appealing for people who witnessed the crash, have dash camera footage of the incident, or were in the area at the time to contact police.

POLICE charged 16 drivers for a range of traffic-related offences as part of a concentrated blitz in the east Gippsland area.

Drug and alcohol-impaired drivers were the focus of Operation Serenity, which ran for a 24-hour period last week.

One notable arrest was that of a 31-year-old man from Lake Tyers Beach, who was charged with drug-impaired and drink driving.
