Songs of the stage and screen will be celebrated in style when The World of Musicals comes to The Wedge next week.

The globe-trotting production – touted as “a Greatest Hits show of all your favourite musicals” – boasts an international cast of renowned theatrical performers.

Among those performers is Ciarán Olohan, a native of Wicklow, Ireland who has been part of the touring company for “about seven years”.

“I worked extensively in opera in Ireland, and in the UK and in Europe, and then this opportunity to become involved at a musical theatre-hits show, basically, came up and I took it, and I’m so glad I did,” Mr Olohan said.

Since joining the production, Mr Olahan has performed in places as far afield as China and North America, in addition to Australia, where The World of Musicals last toured in 2017.

The show is current two-thirds of the way through its 100-date Australian tour, and has been well-received so far.

“We’ve met a lot of the audience after the shows and the comments have been great – the feedback has been wonderful,” Mr Olohan said.

Its soundtrack contains numbers written by the great composing duos of Gilbert & Sullivan and Rodgers & Hammerstein, tracks from the works of Andrew Lloyd Webber, and even the odd song from contemporary musicals such as The Greatest Showman.

“There’ll be something for everybody in there – we’ve got rock ‘n’ roll elements from the likes of Queen as well, and toe-tappers from The Blues Brothers, so we kind of cover all bases,” Mr Olohan said.

“It’s really something where you can come to the theatre, sit back for two hours, relax, and listen to a lot of songs that you may not necessarily kind of think are your favourites, but are definitely well-known.

“All we try to do is entertain, have fun, and hopefully you’ll be tapping your foot on your way home or you’ll be singing a song the next day from the show.”

Furthermore, he promises the production will be a family-friendly, light-hearted and energetic – “it’s great craic!”

The World of Musicals will be appearing at The Wedge next Tuesday, July 19, with the show scheduled to begin from 7.30pm.
