NATIVE timber logging in Victoria looks set to cease at the end of the year.
The Gippsland Times understands the state government has brought forward the closure date to January 1, 2024 – six years earlier than originally announced.
It is also understood a $200 million transition package for the industry will be announced in today’s budget. Timber workers were reportedly briefed this morning.
