Construction blitz in Gippsland to lead to more coach replacements

No V/Line trains will run today (Friday, March 8) until 4pm.

The state government declared in a media release last month that “spring maintenance and construction blitz is forging ahead across the state” to deliver “safer, smoother connections for regional Victorians”, including across Wellington. But coach replacements will to the Gippsland Line in October to allow works on V/Line.

Annual rail maintenance will take place in the state’s east, with crews working on culvert replacements in the Rosedale area and bridge renewal works at Sale to improve reliability. Coaches will replace trains between Traralgon and Bairnsdale from Wednesday, October 16, to the last service on Sunday, October 27.

The Metro Tunnel team continues to test the project’s high-capacity signalling system and trains during spring, with coaches replacing Gippsland trains between Southern Cross and East Pakenham stations on some weekends during spring.

The government says when the Metro Tunnel opens in 2025, Gippsland Line passengers will have access to the Parkville health and education precinct and the St Kilda Rd business precinct via train connection at Pakenham.

Motorists and train passengers are encouraged to plan before they travel.

“Our works during spring will make sure our road and rail networks continue to provide vital connections for all Victorians,” Minister for Public and Active Transport Gabrielle Williams said.
